How Does Advent in Zagreb Look During COVID Times?

Advent in Zagreb 2020

December has finally come and we can all agree that this is definitely the strangest holiday season we have ever experienced. I'm not sure how is the most wonderful time of the year looking in your city but around here in Zagreb is looking a lot different.

Advent in Zagreb has won for three years in a row the prize of Best Christmas Market in Europe and I was able to experience the magic for the last two years since I have moved here. It is something that I love and I look forward to every year.

Unfortunately, we are in some sort of lockdown at the moment until December 21st. That means that coffee places, restaurants are all closed and big social gatherings are not allowed so, there aren't any events for Advent this year. Stores and shopping centers are thankfully open and we are able to do some Christmas shopping according to the established measures of social distance.

It's a very weird mix feeling you get because the city is all beautifully decorated just like every other year but it's lacking the main ingredient of the holiday season which is the social aspect. Meeting with your friends to enjoy some mulled wine and sweet treats from the Christmas market,  the sound of the music from the different concerts playing around town and of course the entire happy and relaxed atmosphere is missing.

But apart from all these things that are different and missing this year because of the pandemic, there is one thing that we have got this year in Zagreb which wasn't present in the previous two years I have been here and that was snow! Last week we had a full day of snow and that turned the city into a fairytale. I went outside after work to get some pictures and to enjoy the snow with my two closest friends and it was so magical. It gave me a lot of hope and it made me realize that there is still a lot of things to be grateful for during this holiday season.

Maybe some of our favorite Christmas traditions are not going to be present this year, or maybe not in the same way but that doesn't mean that there is no place for gratitude, for love, and for some Christmas magic. How is everything looking around your area? Are the Christmas markets openes? Let me know in the comments ;)

New Summer Favorites

New Summer Favorites

Although I have been here in Zagreb as a tourist a few times before I finally moved here almost two years ago, I have realized that I didn't have any nice pictures that feature the amazing St. Mark's Church in the Upper Town, which is for sure a symbol of the city.

This postcard of Zagreb is easily recognized by the unique ceiling the church has, which makes it even more beautiful and special.

I love taking walks in the Upper Town because it's usually very quiet and it's the perfect place to take pictures since the antique architecture is stunning and not many people are around so you can take your time until you get the perfect shot. I'm also very shy when it comes to taking my outfit photos so whenever I can find a spot that is not so busy, I'm very happy and I feel like the pictures turn out so much better and natural.

This week we have been having very high temperatures so I thought it would be a great opportunity to wear some of my new summer favorites which I have bought recently in the sales. I have to say that I'm especially in love with my new bag from Zara because I have been obsessed with straw bags ever since they came out a couple of summers ago I am very happy they are still trendy. This bag, in particular, looks more sophisticated because of the leather details it has so I find it goes very well with any of my outfits.

My next new favorite is this pair of high waisted shorts from H&M. I wasn't very fond of high waisted bottoms but I'm now convinced. These shorts look very nice and the color is so versatile and perfect for hot summer days and also evening dates since it's one of those colors you can easily style more casually or formally depending on the rest of the outfit.

I hope you like these new summer favorites I was able to find in the summer sales and let me know if you have found some good deals lately and which are the pieces you are loving this season :)

Must Visit Place: Zagreb 360

Must-Visit Spot: Zagreb 360

I remember last year I tried to start a little series of posts about must-visit spots in Zagreb. In the first one (that you can find here) I talked about Dolac market. Today I want to share with you another place you can't miss if you are going to this city and continue with this series.
The place I'm referring to is called Zagreb 360 and it's the right spot to go if you want to get the best views of the city.

The people from Zagreb 360 say that you haven't been to Zagreb if you haven't visited this observation deck and I can say I totally agree with this statement. The first time I went to this city, I didn't have the chance to go there and I felt like I was missing something.

Because the typical postcard view of Zagreb you can see when you google this city, with the Main Square and the Cathedral just behind it, for example, you can only get it from the observation deck of Zagreb 360. But not only that, as their name indicates, you can get a full 360 view of the city and see all the most iconic building, so it's the perfect place to go and take thousands of pictures.

In addition, the place has a nice coffee shop inside so you can also enjoy a delicious cup of cappuccino or another drink while you get lost in the incredible views at the same time.

What I loved the most about this place is that your entrance ticket is valid for the entire day which means that you can go there as many times as you want during that day so you can get the best views and pictures with all the light changes. That is exactly what I did when I visited Zagreb 360, I went there the first time around midday, and then I went back for the sunset. I took a lot of pictures and then I drank a coffee while I was waiting for the night to come because I also wanted to get some night shots.

So, if you go I highly recommend that you do the same, and go at different times of the day so you can appreciate the city with different lighting as I did.

Anyway, I hope you like this post and you find it useful in case you are planning to visit the capital of Croatia. I would also love to know if you like to visit this kind of places when you are traveling?
