Magical time in Trakošćan Castle

One of my major must in this new trip to Croatia was to finally visit Trakošćan Castle. The first time I was in this country, I didn't really knew about it and that was why I didn't visit it. But when I saw some pictures of it on Instagram I knew that I had to see this place with my own eyes! I have never been to a castle before and it was really something I always wanted to do so I thought this was the perfect opportunity for sure!
Trakošćan Castle is located in the northern part of Croatia, very close to the border with Slovenia and it's very easy to get there by car. At first I was trying to get there by bus because the buses are very practical to move around the country but in this case, as Trakošćan is not like a proper city, I couldn't find much information online on how to get there by regular bus. However, I was able to book a private transfer to take me to the castle and also to drive me to Varaždin, a very charming city that is close to it and that I will tell you more about in a next post. The transfer also included the pick up from my appartment in Zagreb and also the return, so in the end it was a good price for the whole day.
So, getting back to my visit to the castle I must say that I was completely overwhelmed with the beauty of this place! I have started with the outer part and I took many pictures of the park and the lake that is right below the castle. This was absolutely magical and even though it was super cold that day, I spend like half an hour out there appreciating the beauty of this environment.
Then it was time to enter the castle, which works as a museum, and I was very surprised because it doesn't look as big as it really is on the inside! You can walk around every room of the castle and learn about the different art and furniture pieces that are there and about the life of the family who owned it, the Drašković family. It was really interesting for me to also learn something more about the history of this country.
I spent like one hour and a half inside the castle just looking to every single room but I didn't take any pictures there because it's not allowed so I can't show you many things from the inside of the castle but it's a great visit for sure and the outside is completely stunning!
Anyway, as I was leaving the castle, something magical for me happened and it was that I saw through one of the windows that it had started snowing!! I rarely see any snow in Buenos Aires so for me snow by itself is always pretty special but imagine being there in such a beautiful and antique castle and seeing the snow falling through the window, it was like a movie! I really couldn't believe it and I was so happy that I didn't care how cold I was I just wanted to go outside and catch the snowflakes in my hands! My inner child was jumping of joy and I'm so thankful that I was able to experience such a beautiful moment. I really don't have any more to add to this so let's get to the pictures! Hope you like them!

  1. The grounds of this castle look so special and ideal for wandering through on a cold winter's day - or warm summer's afternoon :) How nice to have arranged a private transfer back straight to your front door, great planning!
