The Perfect Transitional Coat

 

One of the things that I love the most about transitional fashion is that is the time of the year in which we are allowed to mix a lot of different pieces, we can wear blazers, denim jackets, leather jackets, coats, boots, or flats, pants, skirts or dresses. I would say that we can rotate all the pieces in our wardrobe and make some amazing combinations. 

The star piece for the fall season is definitely a trench coat because it's lightweight but still gets you covered, so it's perfect for those days when is not so cold yet to wear a proper coat or a heavier jacket. 

In addition, trench coats are super versatile, elegant, and chic, so they can elevate any outfit and they always give you those cool Parisian vibes, and who doesn't want that? Also, there are a lot of different types of trench coats in the market so it's easy to find the one that suits you the best.

In my case, I have bought this faux suede trench coat at Bershka during their summer sale and I was eagerly waiting for the temperatures to cool down so I could get a chance to wear it. I love that it's very casual and chic at the same time, the color goes perfectly with everything and it has the perfect length for my height. It has become my most worn piece of the season. 

I paired it with this Zara black t-shirt and this gorgeous embroidered skirt that I haven't worn in a long time and to be honest, I can't see why because it looks so good and it's perfect for this transitional weather.

My Fall Basics

We have already started Fall here in Argentina and sometime when we are transitioning between seasons it is hard for us to know exactly what to wear, because some days are warm and the next day is completely cold, or even it could be cold at mornings and then in the afternoon it's hot. So I want to share with you my fall basics which can help you pull out a great fall outfit that is suitable for the weather transition:

First, the Leather Jacket: because it will keep you in the cold morning and it's easy to take off in the afternoon if it's not cold anymore. Plus, the leather jacket always adds that touch of rock and roll to any outfit.

The trench: because in most cases during fall we have a lot of rainy days, so the trench coat is the best friend you could have for this season and it's a very chic way to stay warm and dry.

The flats: because it's still not so cold to wear boots and not so hot to continue using sandals, the flats are the best option!

A light sweater: One of the main tricks for putting a great fall outfit together are layers because we may took some layers of if the weather gets warmer throughout the day. So a key part of creating layers is to add a nice light sweater.

Los básicos: El Trench

Hoy inauguramos esta nueva sección en Size your Style denominada “Los básicos”, en la que me gustaría compartir cuáles son aquellas prendas que deberíamos tener para lograr un buen fondo de armario, es decir aquellos elementos de nuestro guardarropa que siempre nos van a salvar y que podamos combinar con todo. Sería como los pilares de nuestro estilo ya que en base a ellos empezaremos a construir nuestros looks.

En este caso, arrancamos con el trench que no lo vamos a usar solamente para los días de lluvia sino que puede convertirse en un gran aliado para cualquier ocasión, dejó de ser un simple piloto y se transformó en un básico.

Esta prenda surgió como un elemento de la indumentaria militar. Thomas Burberry, quién inventó la gabardina, presentó un piloto para los oficiales del Ejército Británico en 1901. Muchos de los veteranos de la primera guerra mundial (en la que se comenzó a utilizar el trench coat) siguieron usando estas prendas y, de esta forma, se convirtió en parte de la moda.

En la segunda guerra mundial, no solo los oficiales del ejército británico hicieron uso del trench sino que también las tropas de los Estados Unidos, la Unión Soviética, Francia, Alemania, Holanda y Polonia desarrollaron sus propios pilotos y, en algunos casos, acortaron el largo de la prenda para permitir mayor movilidad a los soldados. 

Pero el boom del trench coat se iba a dar con la aparición de la película Casablanca, en la que se podía ver al personaje de Humprey Bogart utilizar esta prenda.

El trench clásico es de color kaki, camel o beige, el largo puede ser hasta los tobillos (más común en los pilotos masculinos) o hasta las rodillas, con doble abotonadura y un lazo para marcar la cintura. Pero también podemos encontrarlos en color negro, rojo y con distintas combinaciones en los vivos. Una de las versiones más modernas es el clásico trench beige de gabardina pero con las mangas de cuero (¡muero por tener uno de esos!).

Por último, siempre hay que atar el trench haciéndole un nudo para el lado en el que cerramos los botones, aún cuando tengamos una hebilla para pasar el cinto, y, si nos da el largo, cuando lo usemos abierto conviene atarlo para atrás para que nos entalle la cintura y no llevemos el cinturón colgando.
